Expelled — Still More Theaters Drop Out

For this coming weekend, Expelled, Ben Stein’s anti-evolution “documentary,” will be showing at only 209 theaters. Another 193 theaters are dropping the film. This information comes from Theater Counts.

For the last two reported days, with the film showing at 402 theaters, box office receipts have been dismal indeed, according to Daily Box Office:

Monday, May 12: total gross receipts were $38,994, $97 per theater.
Tuesday, May 13: total gross receipts were $35,778, $89 per theater.

If an adult ticket costs $8 or $9, an average of about 9 to 11 people per day were viewing the film at each theater.
