THE NEO-THEOCRATS at the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture (a/k/a the Discoveroids) are having a veritable orgy of self-congratulation over their apparent success in Louisiana in getting an anti-evolution, anti-science, anti-reason piece of legislation passed in that state’s House.
Since yesterday, when the Louisiana House passed a version of their Academic Freedom Act (which has to be reconciled with a different version passed earlier by the state Senate), the Discoveroids have posted an incredible string of five separate blog articles to celebrate their accomplishment.
The articles are (oldest first): Louisiana House Adopts Academic Freedom Bill on Evolution and Other Science Issues, Text of Louisiana Science Education Act, Louisiana House Passes Academic Freedom Bill on Evolution and Other Science Issues (almost the same title as before, but different author), Associated Press Story Accurately Presents Debate over Louisiana Science Education Act, and Americans United Misrepresents the Facts about Louisiana Science Education Bill.
It is also noteworthy that four of those five blog articles were written by John West. He is a Senior Fellow at the Seattle-based the Discovery Institute (the DI), where he is Associate Director of their Center for Science and Culture. That makes him one of the chief keepers of the DI’s Wedge strategy, the action blueprint for all the cdesign proponentsists (described here: Missing link: “cdesign proponentsists”).
West also holds this distinction, bestowed upon him by your Curmudgeon: Buffoon Award Winner — John West. That award was for the furious blog article he wrote when an “academic freedom” law failed to get enacted in Florida.
Still, why the utterly frenzied explosion of blog articles now that they’re on the verge of success in Louisiana? We imagine it’s because the Discoveroids have been under considerable pressure from the contributors to their Seattle “think” tank. As we envision it, their big sugar-daddy has been complaining something like this:
I want action! I’ve poured millions into your miserable public-relations rat-hole. I’ve supported all of you in grand style, and what do I have to show for it? Science still exists. Evolution is still being taught. We’re not even close to establishing a theocracy yet. People still laugh at creationism. That Ben Stein movie was a pathetic loser! We’ve had our “academic freedom” bills introduced into several states, but not one has been passed. What’s wrong with you people? I want action!
So now they’re close to winning in one state. Thus the celebrations over in Seattle. Live it up, guys. Enjoy your sad little adventure in Dark Ages nostalgia. The courts will have the last word.
