YOUR Curmudgeon herewith presents an agenda of items we’ll be keeping an eye on in the immediate future. All of these (except the last) are subject to possible rescheduling:
06 Jan: The John Freshwater hearing in Ohio resumes after a long recess. Our most recent report is here: John Freshwater Trial Update (31 Oct).
13 Jan: There will be a meeting of Louisiana‘s State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE). As you know, that state’s creationist legislature has placed the status of creationism in public schools in that board’s hands. Perhaps at this meeting they will be providing some much-needed guidance. Here’s their agenda. On page 29, under “Unfinished Business,” there may be something relative to the issue. It’s difficult to know. We were expecting some action at their previous meeting. See: Louisiana Creationism: Fireworks Today? But they couldn’t deal with it then. Maybe this month they’ll come to grips with the issue.
21 Jan: The creationist-dominated Texas Board of Education (BOE), presided over by creationist dentist Don McLeroy, will have a hearing on new science education standards, on which they will have a final vote in March. See: Texas Creationism Update (31 December 2008).
12 Feb: This day, of course, is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth. And Abraham Lincoln’s too.
Together with our dedicated operatives in the secret underground control room at Operation TruthGuard™, we’ll also be watching for other events throughout the Creosphere which may threaten the values of the Enlightenment and Western Civilization.
