YOU may recall our post from a few months ago: Discovery Institute: Feasting on Death, in which we discussed an appalling attempt to blame a young man’s suicide on Darwin’s theory of evolution and on a book by Richard Dawkins. We didn’t think it could get any worse, but when dealing with the Discovery Institute, one must keep an open mind.
We present to you, dear reader, some excerpts from Slouching Toward Columbine: Darwin’s Tree of Death, which is a more extreme example of the same tactic.
The post is by John West — a Senior Fellow at the Seattle-based Discovery Institute (the DI), where he is Associate Director of their Center for Science and Culture (a/k/a the Discoveroids). That makes him one of the chief Keepers of their Wedge Strategy, and the guru of the cdesign proponentsists (a term described here: Missing link: “cdesign proponentsists”).
West says, with bold font added by us:
Today at Beliefnet, David Klinghoffer has a provocative essay commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre in Colorado. Klinghoffer notes that Columbine killer Eric Harris was inspired in part by his fanatical devotion to Darwinian natural selection, a trait Harris unfortunately shared with many opponents of human dignity during the past century.
David Klinghoffer is, as you might have guessed, a Senior Fellow of the Discovery Institute.
If you can stand it, click over to the Discoveroid blog and read what little West has to say. His article links to Klinghoffer’s piece, which strongly suggests that Darwin’s theory is to blame for the Columbine shootings.
Creationist propaganda doesn’t get any cruder than this.
