Global Warming, Creationism & Brain Death

The irrational union of creationism and the ClimateGate frenzy over global warming has reached what seems to be a journalistic climax. We don’t see how it can get any worse than what we’re going to discuss today.

We first observed this madness manifest itself at the Discovery Institute’s blog, and we noted it here: The Mask Falls Away. The Discoveroids were using the global warming email imbroglio as “proof” that brave dissenters from science orthodoxy (such as creationists like themselves) have been suppressed by ideological conspirators. We labeled this interpretation of ClimateGate as the “vindication of all kooks” doctrine.

The theme was picked up by former Senator Rick Santorum, a creationist and Presidential hopeful. See Santorum, ClimateGate, & Creationism: Axis of Idiocy.

The infection then spread to Human Events, which we wrote about here: Creationism & ClimateGate in “Human Events”. We can’t keep up with this virus, but we noted most recently that it had spread to a fringe publication called Right Side News. See: Global Warming & Creationism: Yet Again.

Today, dear reader, to no one’s surprise, the madness has spread again, this time to a very susceptible carrier of such infections, WorldNetDaily. They’ve already won our Buffoon Award, so we can’t decorate them further. Thus we’re adorning this post with the image of Alley Oop — our ultimate symbol for creationist madness.

Wait — we just realized that WorldNetDaily foreshadowed the ClimateGate-creationism coupling more than a year ago. See: WorldNetDaily Links Global Warming and “Darwinism”. Perhaps they started this plague. Now it’s come full circle.

We present to you, dear reader, some excerpts from Darwin is freezing over, which appears in the trashy pages of WorldNetDaily.

Today’s slime-fest is written by Ellis Washington, whom we regard as one of their worst writers. We’ve discussed his work before. It was one of his articles that caused us to write WorldNetDaily — Worthless Creationist Rag! Ellis impresses us as not only a producer and consumer of journalistic manure, but also an enthusiastic spreader of that pungent material. Here are some excerpts from his article, with bold added by us:

… I am quite conscious that my speculations run beyond the bounds of true science. … It is a mere rag of an hypothesis with as many flaw[s] and holes as sound parts.

~ Charles Darwin, letter to Asa Gray

Observe that Ellis begins with an oldie-goldie mined quote. It’s discussed here in the TalkOrigins Quote Mine Project. Let’s return to Ellis’ article:

I cannot help to see this manmade climate change scam being our modern-day equivalent to Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution 150 years ago, which I consider scientific mythology or fairy tales for adults.

Ellis classifies evolution as a fairy tale. Aren’t you impressed? Then, to dig himself in deeper, he says:

One hundred fifty years ago, Charles Darwin, an unremarkable British naturalist, was able to beguile the entire education, political, scientific and intellectual world with his sophistic and unscientific theories of the origin of man as chronicled in his two famous books: “The Origin of Species” (1859) and “The Descent of Man” (1871). As it was then so it is now; Darwin and his zealous legions of followers had not one shred of verifiable evidence for their theory. Truth and logic are not required to join the cult of Darwin or global warming; complete religious devotion is.

Here we must interrupt for a moment so that we can haul out the Curmudgeon’s Slime-O-Meter and take a reading. Ah … Ellis is already at “Hip Deep,” and we’re just getting started. We continue:

In America we have record-shattering snowstorms and cold fronts from Florida to Alaska. Presently there is snow in 49 of our 50 states. Global-warming patron saint Al Gore is nowhere to be found because he knows he would be laughed to scorn at any venue where he appeared.

One winter doesn’t establish a long-term trend. We don’t opine on climatology here, but we don’t hesitate to say that we have no love for Al Gore and his political “solutions” to whatever problems may exist.

Having deftly disposed of the global warming issue, Ellis turns his keen intellect back to evolution:

One man, Charles Darwin, 150 years ago through his diabolical theory of evolution has done what the Goths, the Visigoths, the Saxons, the Vandals and Attila the Hun could not do – destroy Western civilization by marginalizing objective truth. Before Darwin, Western civilization was based on logic, symmetry and the Judeo-Christian traditions of intellectual thought.

Aaaargh!! Now the Slime-O-Meter reading is up to “Chest Deep.” And there’s more:

Darwinism is a radical, evolutionary worldview that systematically denigrated Christianity, the Constitution and the academy and has tried to destroy objective truth. Now most politicians, judges, academics, theologians and intellectuals believe that truth is relative; morality is in the eye of the beholder. Every man does what is right in his own eyes.

Aaaargh!!

The article then dribbles to its end with mini-rants against Al Gore and his Nobel Peace Prize, shyster lawyers and their frivolous tort lawsuits, radical environmentalists, and liberalism — which Ellis labels a pagan religion.

That’s about it. Consulting the Slime-O-Meter one more time, we see that the final reading is “Neck Deep.”

Way to go, Ellis! We recommend that you stay with WorldNetDaily. You’ve found your natural home.

    Have a great day! 🙂

  2. Just so you know, you can get a direct link to a quote in the QMP by going to the “Contents” page after identifying the quote you want and clicking on the link to that quote there.

  3. Thanks, John Pieret. I never knew that. I’ll change the link in my post.

  4. Have you tried your Slime-O-Meter on Ray Comfort or Luskin? Do you have enough insurance to cover the inevitable explosive breakdown?

  5. bsharp asks: “Have you tried your Slime-O-Meter on Ray Comfort or Luskin?”

Casey, for all his output, is only Ankle Deep. Ray Comfort might break the machine, so we may never know.

  6. Yeah Sure….. but didn’t we already know that they were brain-dead?????

“Presently there is snow in 49 of our 50 states. ”

As basic meterology indicates, warmer air tends to become saturated with moisture more easily. Thus, the snowfall so glibly being bandied about as proof of global warnings falsity could well be indicative of increased temperatures.

However, the mentality of these folks is all reactionary–more snow and viola–it’s evidence of a cooler planet. Sweltering summer heat and Pat Robertson’s a global warming believer! They seem incapable of thinking in the long term.

  8. The legislature of South Dakota has weighed in on the causes of global warming. Among other things, we can blame astrology.

    Nope, I’m not joking:

[T]here are a variety of climatological, meteorological, astrological, thermological, cosmological, and ecological dynamics that can affect world weather phenomena…

I found that over at Bad Astronomy where Phil Plait (loosely) connects the “teach the climate controversy” bills to creationism .
