WE knew it was coming, but we didn’t think it would happen so quickly. Within hours of the news that police had killed James J. Lee, the maniacal gunman, bomber, and hostage-taker who had terrorized the Discovery Building, home of the Discovery Channel, the Discovery Institute had posted a blog article blaming the affair on Charles Darwin.
Lee left behind a manifesto indicating that he was crazed over a tangled multitude of issues, primarily environmentalism, over-population, endangered animal species, illegal immigration, the “filth” of civilization, global warming, automotive pollution, international trade, factory pollution, and “the whole blasted human economy.” He claimed to have been inspired by Al Gore’s documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.”
True to their mission, the Discovery Institute couldn’t wait to blame the latest headline horror on Charles Darwin. We had expected this, but we thought it would be a job for David Klinghoffer, who has previously posted a series of essays attempting to link Charles Darwin to: Hitler, and communism, and Stalin, and the Columbine shootings, and Charles Manson, and Holocaust Museum shooter, James von Brunn, and the Ft. Hood Massacre, and Mao Tse-tung, and Dr. Josef Mengele, and the Occult, and most recently The Dark Side of Darwinism.
But this was so important that the task of blaming Darwin was carried out by none other than Bruce Chapman, founder and president of the Discovery Institute — a/k/a the Discoveroids. Chapman’s Seattle organization devotes about half of its resources to supporting and promoting the neo-theocrats at their creationist public relations and lobbying operation, the Center for Science and Culture. Chapman’s position makes him Lord High Keeper of the Discoveroids’ Wedge strategy, and the ultimate leader of all the cdesign proponentsists.
And now, dear reader, we present you with some excerpts from Fanatic Wanted Still More Darwin Programs, Chapman’s post at his own blog. The bold font was added by us:
It was both scary and pathetic at the Discovery Channel in Maryland today when an environmental terrorist took hostages in an attempt to force the television network to show more programs on Malthus and Darwin and to rail against over-population and global warming.
It’s true, the maniac’s long rant had two sentences making a brief mention of that, but it was almost lost in the vast ocean of his other issues. Let’s read on:
Oddly missing from initial news accounts was any mention of Darwin. But, in James J. Lee’s manifesto, emerges this clear demand: “Develop shows that mention the Malthusian sciences about how food production leads to the overpopulation of the Human race. Talk about Evolution. Talk about Malthus and Darwin until it sinks into the stupid people’s brains until they get it!!“
That’s essentially all Chapman has to say — just two points: (1) the terrorist mentioned Darwin; and (2) the media didn’t mention Darwin. But thanks to Chapman’s keen eye and swift post, the Discovery Institute has connected the dots. Great minds think alike.
