WorldNetDaily Hits Bottom, Keeps Going Lower

Buffoon Award

This is getting to be a weekend habit. We were again awakened by blaring sirens and lights flashing on the wall display of our Retard-o-tron™. As we roused ourselves to wakefulness we were already guessing what it was, and sure enough, the blinking letters on the wall said WorldNetDaily.

WorldNetDaily (WND) is the flamingly creationist, absolutely execrable, moronic, and incurably crazed journalistic organ that believes in and enthusiastically promotes every conspiracy theory that ever existed. WND was an early winner of the Curmudgeon’s Buffoon Award, thus that jolly logo displayed above this post.

So we hastened to the computer to see what our automated scanners had found. Whoa! This time what we saw went beyond anything we were expecting. The title alone pretty much says it all: Stunning Darwin-led-to-Hitler video. Documentary will change your view of evolution forever.

You guessed it. WND has discovered one of the all-time disgusting pieces of hate propaganda in the history of dark journalism, and they’re enthusiastically peddling it to their readers. It’s Darwin’s Deadly Legacy, a crazed work mentioned in the Wikipedia article on the now-deceased television preacher, D. James Kennedy. Their article mentions that one of the sources for Kennedy’s “documentary” was historian Richard Weikart.

We’ve written before about Weikart. See our appropriately-titled Discovery Institute: Hitler, Hitler, Hitler, about an article Weikart had contributed to the blog of the neo-theocrats at the Discovery Institute‘s creationist public relations and lobbying operation, the Center for Science and Culture (a/k/a the Discoveroids, a/k/a the cdesign proponentsists). There we said:

We’ve mentioned Richard Weikart before. He’s not only a Discoveroid “fellow” (i.e., full-blown creationist), he’s also the author of a book titled From Darwin to Hitler, which influenced James Kennedy, the now-deceased televangelist who made the influential “documentary” Darwin’s Deadly Legacy. We might consider Weikart to be the intellectual godfather of the Discoveroids’ frequently-repeated malicious mantra: “No Darwin, no Hitler.” If he’s not the originator of that foul dogma, he’s certainly one of its principal pillars.

Are the pieces of the puzzle beginning to fall into place, dear reader? Can you see the nature of what WND is peddling? It’s creationist filth of the vilest kind.

Consider that in the long history of hate literature there are a few classics that stand out from the rest. These titles come readily to mind: The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, Hitler’s Mein Kamph, Marx’s Communist Manifesto, Ku Klux Klan literature like Thomas Dixon’s The Clansman, etc. Other than an academic historian of such material, imagine what kind of person would have even one of those works displayed prominently on his bookshelf of beloved favorites.

Regarding the imaginary Darwin-Hitler connection, we pointed out in Hitler and Darwin, by quoting (and linking to) Mein Kampf, that Hitler claimed to be acting in accordance with the will of God, and he never even mentioned Darwin. Also, we’ve posted before that Winston Churchill read Darwin, and is the only WWII leader we know of who did so. But facts mean nothing to creationists.

Read the WND article, if you like. It could have been written by David Klinghoffer. It has several of his “Darwin influenced X” accusations, including (besides Hitler) the usual Klinghoffer references to eugenics and even the Columbine massacre.

Long after the boil is lanced and the lies are exposed, such twisted works of hate live on, but they eventually settle into the role of cult scripture. The more explicit the exposure of the lies in those works, the more fanatical the cults become. Now, at last, WND has sunk to the level of the Discoveroids. It doesn’t get any lower.

  1. Arrrrgggggggghhhhhh!

It is a long line of idiots, fools and gullibles who make such charges. Those of any intelligence, like Tony Campolo (I hope), tend to avoid making these scurrilous and false claims, once chastised.

Which means WND may never stop.

Your find that Churchill read Darwin is a good one. You may also want to note that <a href=""Darwin was banned by Hitler, not honored, as Weikart and others falsely claim.

Keep up the good work. Good people will take notice.

  2. Oops. Apologies for the format error.

  3. Your second link doesn’t go to anything.

  4. They must have been pumping out the cesspool out back, and found a few old dvds. They might be good for plinking targets if you can stand the smell.

  5. I can’t wait for the second part of their series: “Stunning Newton-led-to-Hitler video. Documentary will change your view of gravity forever!!!” Couldn’t have dropped all of those bombs without Newtonian physics.

  6. nice analogy there Reinard….had never thought of that one, and how true (by Creationist logic at least) it is.

Newton did inspire Hitler to drop all those bombs….sort of….that evil Theory of Gravitation.

  7. Curmudgeon: “It doesn’t get any lower.”

Maybe not, but in case anyone is not sure just how low WND has gone, I’ll remind everyone that a few years ago WND’s Joseph Farah personally answered my question about what he thought of OECs. Without the evasion or stalling that I get from most anti-evoution activists he said that they were “wrong too.” But politics makes strange bedfellows, so if the OECs at the DI, including some who (gasp!) accept common descent, can help WND’s bottom line, they’ll hold their nose and do what they gotta do.

  8. And I was reminded — I did a more complete takedown of the silly ideas about Darwin being related to Hitler; enjoy, here:
