WorldNetDaily: The Dark Side of Darwin

Buffoon Award

We were again awakened by blaring sirens and lights flashing on the wall display of our Retard-o-tron. As expected, the blinking letters on the wall said WorldNetDaily.

WorldNetDaily (WND) is the flamingly creationist, absolutely execrable, moronic, and incurably crazed journalistic organ that believes in and enthusiastically promotes every conspiracy theory that ever existed. WND was an early winner of our Buffoon Award, thus that jolly logo displayed above this post.

So we hastened to the computer to see what our automated scanners had found. Thus we learned of a new item at WND’s bookstore. We’ve visited that place before (see Weekend Wackiness from WorldNetDaily). It’s truly a creationist fairyland where you’ll find, assembled in one super-convenient place, everything an idiot will ever need for entertainment and education. It’s a storehouse of stupid, the mother-lode of lunacy, the Eldorado of — okay, that’s enough.

It is your Curmudgeon’s pride and pleasure to present to you, dear reader, some excerpts from The Dark Side of Charles Darwin, a promotional review of a book by that title at the WND bookstore. The bold font was added by us:

A single man stands behind one of the greatest deceptions in history

Oooooooh! Who is it? Piltdown Man? Alan Sokal? Let’s read on:

Charles Darwin’s ideas still penetrate every aspect of our culture, including science, religion, and education. And while much has been made of his contribution to the evolutionary hypothesis [Aaaargh!!], little has been publicized about the dark side of the man himself and how this may have impacted the quality and legitimacy of his research.

We’ve always been fascinated by the Dark Side, so let us continue:

This daring and compelling book takes its readers behind the popular facade of a man revered worldwide as a scientific pioneer, and unveils what kind of person Darwin really was. The book reveals disturbing facts that will help you:

• Perceive Darwin firsthand through the eyes of family and friends, and his own correspondence

• Discern this darkly troubled man, struggling with physical and mental health issues

• Uncover his views on eugenics and racism, and his belief that women were less evolved than men

The man’s entire correspondence is available online, and yes, he had health problems. We’ve debunked the “eugenics and racism” nonsense too often to even justify a link. But that belief that women were “less evolved” then men is a new one.

Here’s the rest of the review:

Thoroughly documented, this book reveals Darwin’s less-than-above board methods of attempting to prove his so-called scientific beliefs, and his plot to “murder God” by challenging the then-dominant biblical worldview.

But this is the best part, where WND describes the author of that book:

Dr. Jerry Bergman has taught biology, genetics, chemistry, biochemistry, anthropology, geology, and microbiology at the college level for over 30 years. He has 9 degrees, including 7 graduate degrees, and has authored over 800 publications.

You know you’re impressed. Wait — we’ve found some verification. That biography must be true because it’s also posted at Answers in Genesis: Dr Jerry Bergman.

Okay, now we’ll turn off the Retard-o-tron sirens.

  1. I read something not too long ago that said Dr. Bergman was Expelled from Bowling Green State University.

  2. Dr. Bergman seems to have wasted an awful lot of time for nothing. All you would want to know about the man Darwin was can be known simply by reading his Beagle Diary. The “plot” to “murder God” is so ridiculous, it’s laughable…Darwin was a theist for much of his life, and only became agnostic after noticing the deep suffering of people and wondering why god did nothing to help people, like when his own 9 year old daughter died. I think Dr. Bergman is jealous of Darwins accomplishments and wishes he too were known to billions of people worldwide. No one will remember Dr. Bergman when he is gone, but everyone remembers Darwin because he contributed so much to science. See, if you are spouting BS, 9 degrees STILL won’t make you famous!

  3. So the esteemed Doctor has sunk to the level of trying to vilify an influential scientist. All those degrees, so little utility. (to quote a punchline in the comics last Sunday)

  4. I just need to ask a couple of questions.
How many of those degrees were purchased from Liberty University?
If Dr. Bergman, PhD. takes the moral highroad, is he likely to fall off the cliff.
Why are your Retard-o-tron sirens all pointed north?

  5. Tundra Boy asks: “Why are your Retard-o-tron sirens all pointed north?”

A bit of psychological warfare to erode your morale before we launch the missiles.

  6. Checking the source of one of his PHDs:

California Deputy Attorney General Asher Rubin called the correspondence school “a diploma mill which has been preying on California consumers for too many years” and “a consumer fraud, a complete scam”. The suit also referred to Columbia Pacific University as a “phony operation” offering “totally worthless [degrees]…to enrich its unprincipled promoters”

  7. But he is a member of MENSA.

  8. Charley Horse says: “But he is a member of MENSA.”

Anyone who brags about that is an idiot.

  9. CC said “Anyone who brags about that is an idiot.”

Exactly! But likely one of his major accomplishments.

  10. Dr. Bergman is truly impressive. He has published 200 papers in the time between the AiG biography and this book! He also has so many degrees that he didn’t even need to include his high school diploma among them. I bet that was on purpose, because talking about double digit degrees would be too egotistical.

It’s just disgusting that they have to continue to attack the man personally. He’s long dead and doesn’t mind, but do they have to use his corpse as a puppet to frighten people? And even if Darwin had been personally a bad man, or a sick man, there’s no relevance to the worth of his idea. Hitler was bad, but we copied his autobahns and we didn’t abandon social programs just because his government had them.

  12. So Charles really was a Darwin Lord of the Sith?
