We were again awakened by blaring sirens and lights flashing on the wall display of our Retard-o-tron. As expected, the blinking letters on the wall said WorldNetDaily.
WorldNetDaily (WND) is the flamingly creationist, absolutely execrable, moronic, and incurably crazed journalistic organ that believes in and enthusiastically promotes every conspiracy theory that ever existed. WND was an early winner of our Buffoon Award, thus that jolly logo displayed above this post.
So we hastened to the computer to see what our automated scanners had found. Thus we learned of a new item at WND’s bookstore. We’ve visited that place before (see Weekend Wackiness from WorldNetDaily). It’s truly a creationist fairyland where you’ll find, assembled in one super-convenient place, everything an idiot will ever need for entertainment and education. It’s a storehouse of stupid, the mother-lode of lunacy, the Eldorado of — okay, that’s enough.
It is your Curmudgeon’s pride and pleasure to present to you, dear reader, some excerpts from The Dark Side of Charles Darwin, a promotional review of a book by that title at the WND bookstore. The bold font was added by us:
A single man stands behind one of the greatest deceptions in history…
Oooooooh! Who is it? Piltdown Man? Alan Sokal? Let’s read on:
Charles Darwin’s ideas still penetrate every aspect of our culture, including science, religion, and education. And while much has been made of his contribution to the evolutionary hypothesis [Aaaargh!!], little has been publicized about the dark side of the man himself and how this may have impacted the quality and legitimacy of his research.
We’ve always been fascinated by the Dark Side, so let us continue:
This daring and compelling book takes its readers behind the popular facade of a man revered worldwide as a scientific pioneer, and unveils what kind of person Darwin really was. The book reveals disturbing facts that will help you:
• Perceive Darwin firsthand through the eyes of family and friends, and his own correspondence
• Discern this darkly troubled man, struggling with physical and mental health issues
• Uncover his views on eugenics and racism, and his belief that women were less evolved than men
The man’s entire correspondence is available online, and yes, he had health problems. We’ve debunked the “eugenics and racism” nonsense too often to even justify a link. But that belief that women were “less evolved” then men is a new one.
Here’s the rest of the review:
Thoroughly documented, this book reveals Darwin’s less-than-above board methods of attempting to prove his so-called scientific beliefs, and his plot to “murder God” by challenging the then-dominant biblical worldview.
But this is the best part, where WND describes the author of that book:
Dr. Jerry Bergman has taught biology, genetics, chemistry, biochemistry, anthropology, geology, and microbiology at the college level for over 30 years. He has 9 degrees, including 7 graduate degrees, and has authored over 800 publications.
You know you’re impressed. Wait — we’ve found some verification. That biography must be true because it’s also posted at Answers in Genesis: Dr Jerry Bergman.
Okay, now we’ll turn off the Retard-o-tron sirens.
