Your Curmudgeon has been hard at work with the Alliance of Advanced Apologetics Research for Geological Harmony (AAARGH). Using the best available information — scripture! — we herewith present our findings.
Knowing that all human science (falsely so called — 1 Timothy 6:20) that is contrary to scripture must be false (see All Scientific Dating Methods Are Wrong) we realize that not only is the earth young, but it is also flat. Those who claim that they follow the path of holiness by being young-earth creationists are deceiving themselves if they do not also proclaim the scriptural truth of the flat earth.
All creationists who are not also flat-earthers are hereby declared to be hypocrites and blasphemers. Verily, they are heretics and shall dwell eternally in the Lake of Fire!
Most of the scripture passages we quote here speak for themselves. For those that require some commentary, our words are shown in red. First we present passages using the word “earth.” We have skipped several which are mere duplicates, but we recognize that repetitions emphasize the truth of those words. We have also omitted passages that are ambiguous, such as “the face of the earth,” because although such passages are entirely consistent with flatness, we realize that the surface of a sphere also has a face.
As further evidence of our scholarly integrity, because a mention of the “beginning” or the “end” of the earth may not be a geographical expression, we haven’t used such passages unless their meaning is unmistakable. But there can be no confusion regarding mention of the earth’s “edges” or “ends” or “pillars” or “corners” or “borders.” Those terms are incompatible with a spherical shape.
Also, we’ve left out certain passages that some claim are not flat-earth descriptions. For example, Isaiah 40:22 says: “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth.” That passage is often misunderstood. The phrase “circle of the earth” actually refers to a disk. There is a Hebrew word for “ball” which was used elsewhere in Isaiah, so although the author had both words at his disposal, he didn’t use “ball” in his “circle of the earth” passage. Yes, we know that a disk has no corners, but things may have changed since the Flood, so we’ll ignore that detail.
Also, note that these passages are not only from the Old Testament, but also the New, notwithstanding that man’s science (so called) asserted that the earth was a sphere and Eratosthenes calculated its circumference centuries before the New Testament was written. The Truth never changes!
And so, dear reader, we issue the Curmudgeon’s Challenge to all creationists: Proclaim yourselves! What is the shape of the earth? If you don’t believe it’s flat, you are destined for the Lake of Fire!
Herewith is our irrefutable data, with bold font added for emphasis:
Genesis 28:12
And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. [The ladder must be on a fixed, flat surface.]
Deuteronomy 28:49
The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;
Deuteronomy 28:64
And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other;
Deuteronomy 33:17
His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: [The unicorn reference is a bonus.]
1 Samuel 2:8
for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he hath set the world upon them.
1 Samuel 2:10
The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth;
Job 9:6
Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble. [A reference to the usually unmovable earth, but it must be flat to sit on pillars.]
Job 37:3
He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.
Job 38:4
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Psalm 67:7
God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
Psalm 72:8
He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
Psalm 74:17
Thou hast set all the borders of the earth:
Psalm 104:5
Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. [Another reference to the unmovable earth, also flat to sit on foundations.]
Isaiah 5:26
And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly: [The earth must be flat for all to see that ensign.]
Jeremiah 25:33
And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth:
Daniel 4:11 (repeated in Daniel 4:20)
The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth: [The tree must be on a flat earth to be visible to the end of the earth.]
Luke 23:44
And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. [The earth must be flat to be all dark at one time.]
Note: The Luke passage is ambiguous. It could refer to blocking the sun from the the entire daylight face of the earth, but what happened after the ninth hour? Was “all the earth” then in daylight, or only the sunward half?
Two other gospels address the same event. They agree about the timing, but they’re all slightly different about the physical extent of the phenomenon. Luke, quoted above, says: “darkness over all the earth.” Here are the other passages:
Matthew 27:45
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.Mark 15:33
And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
Revelation 7:1
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth,
Now for passages using the word “world”:
Psalm 22:27
All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD:
Psalm 93:1
the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved. [Not a flat-earth passage, but nevertheless interesting.]
Psalm 96:10
Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: [See previous comment.]
Matthew 4:8
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; [That mountain must be on a flat earth.]
Luke 4:5
And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. [See previous comment.]
Romans 10:18
But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
There’s nothing more to be said. The earth is flat, and that’s that.

I just used a laser level down my driveway and the laser was the same distance the entire way! That’s proof right there!
Gary says: “That’s proof right there!”
Don’t be beguiled by “proof” in this sinful world. I’ve given you all the proof you need.
“Psalm 96:10
Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: ”
Forget about all that “corners of the earth” stuff supposedly meaning the earth is flat. The phrase above is so irrefutably at odds with what we can now observe directly that any sane, rational person can see that at least some parts of the Bible are not to be to be taken literally.
Of course, Ken Ham will probably commission Jason Lytle, PhD. to concuct an “explanation”.
A minor quibble:
“[The earth must be flat to be all dark at one time.]”
No. God could interpose His Mighty Hand between the Sun and the Earth-Moon system. We’re talking miracles here.
A nice way to keep you off the streets and out of trouble, but those passages don’t imply a flat earth. Much of the problem is from translation: in the original (I had to suffer through twelve years of a Hebrew education), the word “eretz” is used, which your translations render as “earth.” That’s quite poetic, but not terribly accurate. “Eretz” is much closer to “land” than earth, hence references to “eretz yisroel” (Land of Israel) or “eretz mitzrayim” (Land of Egypt). An alternate word used in some of those passages (e.g., the passages you cited in Daniel) is “arae,” with more of a connotation of “ground,” but also meaning “land.” The word usually used to indicate the entire world is “olam,” not “eretz.”
And, of course, there is still the typical fundamentalist view that my ancestors were too stupid to use allegory or metaphor in their writing…
I agree with SY.
Moreover, we don’t have a long history of prominent people citing the Bible for the Earth being flat, as we do have for the full geocentric model.
(Of course, we don’t have a long history of people citing the Bible for fixity of species, either. That’s a modern idea, and would be an anachronism in the Bible or for any time before the modern era.)
Another reason that I prefer geocentrism over flat-earth-ism is that I’d bet that very few creationists can give a good reason for accepting that the Earth is a planet of the Sun, while evidence for the shape of the Earth should be fairly easy to come by in the 21st century.
I’d like to see a heliocentrist creationist trying to reconcile the two.
David Evans says:
Maybe. It is a bit ambiguous. But it says “there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.” What then? Was all the earth then in daylight, or only the sunward half?
SY says: “A nice way to keep you off the streets and out of trouble,”
That’s the important thing.
More on the “darkness” question: Two other gospels address the same event. They agree about the timing, but they’re all slightly different about the extent of the phenomenon. Luke, which I quoted in the original post, says: “darkness over all the earth.” Here are the other passages:
Matthew 27:45
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
Mark 15:33
And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
Shall we discuss the mistranslation of “young woman” as “virgin” in another chapter?
SY asks:
We can discuss flat earth without fear of generating too much passion. The topic you mentioned is best left alone.
You left out Joshua commanding the sun to stand still so he’d have daylight to win a battle. And then there’s the firmament in the first chapter of Genesis–in Hebrew, the word refers to a dome over the land.
Yup, in a literal reading of the Bible, we live in a barbecue pit.
Greg Camp says: “You left out Joshua commanding the sun to stand still”
Right. But that one is for the blasphemous solar system issue. The firmament is a whole different thing. One must believe all of scripture, of course, but I was focused on the shape of the earth.
