Rev. David Rives: No Intermediate Species

What could be better, dear reader, than starting the week with an inspiring video by the brilliant and articulate leader of David Rives Ministries?

This one is titled Darwin — the Gravest Objection. In it, the rev quotes (accurately!) from Origin of Species, where Darwin asks:

Why then is not every geological formation and every stratum full of such intermediate links? Geology assuredly does not reveal any such finely graduated organic chain; and this, perhaps, is the most obvious and gravest objection which can be urged against my theory.

The rev’s video doesn’t give a link, of course, but we will. The source is here: Chapter 9, Origin of Species. But the rev isn’t engaged in quote-mining, because he then tells us that Darwin attempted to explain the problem by claiming that the geological record is flawed.

He correctly quotes Darwin’s next sentence: “The explanation lies, as I believe, in the extreme imperfection of the geological record.” And he even says that Darwin spent the next 23 pages telling us that the geological record is imperfect. But then the rev tells us that the explanation provided by geologists is unreliable because they didn’t believe the evidence in the bible, and that’s where they all went wrong.

The rev’s performance is amazing, because he doesn’t engage in quote-mining — that’s for amateurs. This is flat-out reality denial.

You will need only one and a half minutes to watch the thing (until the commercial at the end), and then your life will be forever changed. Click on the video. Do it now … if you have the courage!

Afterwards, feel free to use the comments as an Intellectual Free Fire Zone.

Missing time in the rock record?
Its a miracle., no other explanation is possible David.
Looking at the Permian fossiliferous marble on the
kitchen floor(and thereare many examples of major gaps/unconformities/missing time in the rock record) made are me think. .” If evolution is true.,
why are there still oysters.”? How did those suckers do that?
A : because the magical designer knew., Crassostrea virginica are great raw on ice with hot sauce and and a beer.

  2. The most entertaining part is the plethora of conspiracy videos that youtube offers up once it thinks you like young Davy’s nutty shtick.

  3. An amazing performance indeed. He would have made a great explorer.

I wonder how many fossil transitional species it takes to falsify the “no transitional species” down to uncommon transitional species. Archaeopteryx is about as close to a crocoduck as we are likely to find. I wonder exactly how transitional species is defined. Is it one with a mix of advanced and primitive (to use common language terms) characters, Archaeptoryx as an example? If this is the definition, how about living transitional species such as Amphioxus? I wouldn’t necessarily think a transitional species is a (non)missing link in an ancestral-descendant lineage. Archaeoptryx may not be an ancestor to any lineage of modern birds, for example,

Couldn’t you consider just about every species found in the fossil record to be a transitional species? (Unless it was the last species in an extinct genus.)

Quite right, IMO, retiredsciguy. The creatards don’t care about real transitional fossils, though. What they want is chimeras like crocoducks. It’s because they have no understanding of evolutionary theory, beyond realizing that no deity need apply. But that doesn’t stop Little Davey from pontificating. If you look up the Dunning-Kruger Effect, there’s a picture of David Rives.

  7. ESG: You got it. every fossil is transitional between one species and another. It’s true the critter could have been among the last of its kind, but try would have a hard time proving it.

  8. Ceteris Paribus

Possibly it was biologist Ken Miller who pointed out the real beauty of transitional fossils in the creationist world. Every time some archeologist manages to plug a gap in the record with a new transitional fossil species, the creationists rejoice that the record now contains two new gaps. One gap each between the original end points and the new transitional species.

It’s like Xeno’s Paradox: You simply can’t logically get there from here.

  9. I wonder if the suit is also part of the background. It hardly moves. To do his videos he wouldn’t even have to dress up, just puts on some green pjs.
