Creationist Wisdom #380: DNA Proves Creation

Today’s letter-to-the-editor appears in the Columbia County News-Times of Evans, Georgia, a suburb of Augusta. It’s titled Science does not support evolution. We’ll give you a few excerpts, enhanced with our Curmudgeonly commentary, and some bold font for emphasis. Because we don’t like to embarrass people (unless they’re politicians or otherwise in the public eye), we’ll omit the writer’s name and city. Okay, here we go:

In Steve Crawford’s article, “GOP beliefs seem to be evolving,” January 15, 2014, he makes an assumption, which is not correct. He states, “I know many reject the idea that humans and other creatures have evolved and changed over time, based on their religious beliefs.”

He’s talking about this: GOP beliefs seem to be evolving, which discusses the recent poll that shows Republicans becoming increasingly creationist. He agrees with what your Curmudgeon has also concluded, and attributes the poll results to the decline in the overall number of Republicans, which leaves a concentrated creationist residue who choose to remain in that party.

Today’s letter-writer ignores the statistics. Numbers don’t interest him. Instead, he disagrees about the scientific validity of evolution, and informs us:

At one time, it was true that our rejection of evolution was based upon our religious faith alone; but today we have scientific facts that support creation, the Biblical record, and not evolution. We now know the evidence used in the 40s and 50s was false!

Get ready, here comes an ark-load of “scientific” refutation:

The tooth of a pig, the mixed fossils of Java man, the fragments of a skull of the Piltdown man, the Neanderthals, Lucy, and Ardi; all failed to prove any transition to human beings. In fact, much of that evidence was falsified to deceive the public into believing evolution!

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Nebraska man, Java man, Piltdown man, Neanderthal man … what a chaotic jumble! This guy is fantastic! Oh yes, Piltdown man was a fake, and Nebraska man was an honest and short-lived mistake — we discussed those two in Common Creationist Claims Confuted. Let’s read on:

There is no fossil record showing the transition of one species into another species.

Yeah, yeah. We assume he also believes there is no evidence that the Earth orbits the sun. He continues:

Today we know that DNA supports creation; that all offspring receive their DNA from their parents, 50 percent from each. If there is no DNA for feathers in the parents, then there will be no DNA for feathers in the offspring! This makes evolution impossible!

No mutations — just pure DNA, from one generation to the next. Hey, that’s original! We love this guy! Here’s more:

On the DVD Evolution vs. God, college students and college professors are asked if they could name one scientific fact that proved evolution and they could not give an answer!

That’s a reference to Ray Comfort’s work — see Ray Comfort’s Film Thrills Creationists. Then he mentions that Richard Dawkins has no evidence either. Moving along:

Evolution is prevalent today, not because evidence supports it; but because in our educational systems no other information or evidence is allowed. Therefore, we have years of indoctrinated students exposed to this controlled teaching that evolution is a proven scientific fact and that the Bible is a book of myths.

It’s a conspiracy! Another excerpt:

What is additionally sad is our ministers have gone through this same indoctrination, and no longer believe and preach the complete Bible. This has weakened our society through the years and now we have no accountability to God and no restrictions on how we live.

We like having no restrictions. Thanks to evolution, we’re thinking about living in sin with an ostrich — a female ostrich, of course. There’s nothing odd about your Curmudgeon! On with the letter:

At one time, America’s pulpits were our source of education in the Word of God and they were an influence for righteousness in our society. Today, the Church has lost its power and respect!

He’s right. Our churches need power! Then those smarty-pants scientists will get what they deserve. Now we come to the end:

The basic truths about sin, hell, and judgment are not presented; but in not doing so, makes us feel better and makes the church more acceptable. The Church needs to wake up or it will sleep through the rapture!

Well, there it is, dear reader. What else do you need to know? Wake up, before it’s too late!

  1. I can’t get Poe’s Law out of my head. It’s hard to believe that, in the Internet age, anyone can read and remember so many long-refuted sound bites without stumbling on to at least some refutations. Then again, who knows how many additional canards this clown crossed out before sending.

  2. Charles Deetz ;)

@Frank J I see his embracing of the Comfort video as a disregard for facts or sanity. It doesn’t prove anything. So to expect them to google ‘transitional fossils’ is expecting a miracle.

I found complete dullards commenting on the “GOP beliefs seem to be evolving”. They can’t even coherently make an argument against global warming, let alone defend it. We deserve to cook ourselves in our atmosphere with dimwits like these.

    The Creationist asserts:

Today we know that DNA supports creation; that all offspring receive their DNA from their parents, 50 percent from each

Not exactly. Nuclear DNA is 50/50 male/female. But the essential mitochondrial DNA is mostly female only. So more of the offspring DNA comes from the female parent than the male parent. Or in more general terms, the female provides the majority of the offspring DNA, and the male DNA is a minority.

The Creationist’s often say that because the majority of US population is Christian, the government should rightfully be allowed to vote for a Christian theocracy.

I propose that since women contribute the majority of the DNA to an offspring, women alone should be in charge of all decisions regarding reproduction.

  4. I’m always amazed that newspapers will publish letters from people who operate with the knowledge base of a 6 year old.

  5. Today, the Church has lost its power and respect!

    Gee. I wonder why?

VATICAN CITY (AP) – January 17, 2014 — A document obtained by The Associated Press on Friday shows Pope Benedict XVI defrocked nearly 400 priests over just two years for sexually molesting children.

  6. The Creationist laments—

“[Ministers no longer believing and preaching the complete Bible] has weakened our society through the years and now we have no accountability to God and no restrictions on how we live.”

I suggest s/he emigrates to South Africa. Here s/he will find lots of that good ol’ down home accountability to God and restrictions on how we live.

  7. @Con-Tester
And they still use religion as an excuse to burn witches in Africa too.

  8. And, in keeping with its original purpose, to turn people into herd animals.

  9. Off topic, but hopefully of some interest to readers here: Cosmic ‘web’ seen for first time, a BBC news summary of article in Nature.

This finding will give no comfort to the writer of this Creationist Wisdom #380 letter, as I think it undeniable that the illustrated tendrils of hitherto elusive dark matter conclusively prove the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

  10. “There is no fossil record showing the transition of one species into another species.”

And with every transitional fossil found, TWO MORE GAPS IS CREATED!!!!1111!111111!1!!!!

  11. “On the DVD Evolution vs. God, college students and college professors are asked if they could name one scientific fact that proved evolution and they could not give an answer!”

No, what happened is that Comfort edited those who answered out of the video. Lying for Jesus is a virtue.

  12. @Garnetstar

Of course it’s OK to lie for Jesus. The Catholic church has even published books saying that pious lies for god are OK.

And of course, as the bible says, god himself deceives prophets to lie and then says that prophets who lie are to be executed. Dead witnesses don’t tell tales. Ask the Mafia.

    What a racket!

    Ezekiel 14:9
And if a prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that prophet.

God doesn’t lie – He gets someone else to do it for him, like a White House spokesman.
God will be hearing from my lawyer!

At least the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a paragon of integrity. Never caught him in a lie.

  13. “And with every transitional fossil found, TWO MORE GAPS IS CREATED!!!!”
Spot on, Lurker. That’s why I always argue that creacrappers had aliens as their ancestors say 800 years ago. Because of the gaps in their family tree.

  14. The curmudgeon wrote “we’re thinking about living in sin with an ostrich — a female ostrich, of course.”

    (1) She can outrun you.
    (2) Ostriches can kick like a mule only wishes it could.
    (3) Have you ever seen an ostrich egg? She wouldn’t even notice you…
