The Drool-o-tron™ lived up to its name today. The blinking letters of its wall display said WorldNetDaily (WND). Our computer was locked onto this article at WND’s website: Sanders to bring socialist rhetoric to Liberty U.
Wow — Bernie Sanders is a US Senator from Vermont who refers to himself as a socialist. And he’s going to show up at Liberty University (originally Lynchburg Baptist College), the young-Earth creationist school founded by Jerry Falwell. What an event! (Perhaps now you understand our title.) Here are some excerpts, with bold font added by us:
Sen. Bernie Sanders, the self-described socialist who’s taking the Democratic polls for president by storm – rapidly closing the gap with frontrunner Hillary Clinton – is now heading to the faith-based Liberty University to give platform remarks.
It’s going to be an event to remember! This reminds us of an old post we wrote — which upset many of you: Creationism or Socialism: Which is Dumber? Back to WND:
Liberty … is the site where Sen. Ted Cruz kicked off his campaign for president.
It’s a natural place for someone like Cruz. But Sanders? What’s going on here? Let’s read some more:
But Sanders said in a statement reported by Mediaite [whatever that is] he received an invitation, and has accepted, despite the likely clashes of politics and culture.
Liberty University invited Sanders? That’s like … we can’t think of an analogy. WND quotes Sanders:
Liberty University was kind enough to invite me to address a convocation and I decided to accept. It goes without saying that my views on many issues – women’s rights, gay rights, education and many other issues – are very different from the opinions of some in the Liberty University community.
Very different indeed. Here’s more from that Sanders quote:
I think it is important, however, to see if we can reach consensus regarding the grotesque level of income and wealth inequality in our country, about the collapse of the middle class, about the high level of childhood poverty, about climate change and other issues.
Ah yes, income and wealth inequality. Maybe he’ll try to appeal to those who believe in Christian socialism. You never heard of that? It’s been around for 2,000 years. In the American colonies too. We wrote about it in Of Plymouth Plantation: “Every Man for His Own Particular”. Those revered pilgrims, who 70 years later gave us the Salem witchcraft trials, started out as bible commies. There may be some of that at good ol’ Liberty U.
One last excerpt:
His visit is scheduled for Sept. 14.
It’ll be more of a sideshow than anything else, but it’s also likely to be extremely entertaining. We’ll be watching for reports. The Drool-o-tron™ will let us know.
