Self-Published Genius #47: Science & the Bible

Rejoice, dear reader! We have another addition to our series about Self-Published Geniuses, where we bring you news of authors with a vanity press book in which the author claims to have made paradigm-shattering discoveries, and announces his work by hiring a press release service.

The press release for this one is titled Author Combines Current Science and the Scriptures to Avoid “Creation Wars”, from something called Press Release Rocket. It says, with some bold font added by us for emphasis:

It’s no secret that conflicting models exist to explain creation and the universe. Young earth creationists, old earth creationists, theistic evolutionists, and evolving creationists all differ from evolutionists. Author and aerospace engineer, Myron Heavin, compares the strengths and weaknesses of the various models and shares his conclusions in his new release: Human Origins and the Bible (Redemption Press, 8/16).

He’s an aerospace engineer, so he must really know his stuff! But before proceeding further, we need to confirm that the book qualifies for our collection. Was it published by a vanity press? No problem. At the website of Redemption Press they describe themselves with this banner at the bottom of their first page: “Premier Christian Self-Publishing Service At Your Finger Tips.”

Okay. We’ve got a vanity press book and we’ve got the author’s press release. Let’s see what else the press release says:

While studying for his master’s degree in theology, Myron Heavin was struck by textbooks that failed to ground their viewpoints on creation in Scripture.

Yes! We’ve noticed that too. Let’s read on:

The book is of special interest to those struggling with how to resolve a literal reading of Genesis with the latest findings of science. Heavin also discusses whether God created by guiding evolution, the fossil hominid record, Neanderthals, DNA research, whether Darwin’s slow evolution is dead, and other subjects relevant to creation studies.

Wow — the book has everything you want! The press release continues:

With careful scholarship he resolves the conflict of Adam and Eve living 8,000 years ago and humans migrating out of Africa 50,000-plus years ago. He says, “Adam and Eve, as the first humans to recognize sin, lived just a few thousand years ago. Due to their new knowledge of right from wrong, a few generations later we have cities, farming, metalworking, etc. It took a cultural change, religion, for all these things to happen.

That makes sense. Here’s one more excerpt from the press release:

This up-to-date treatment of the current science is also designed for use as a Bible study for individuals and groups, and is a valuable contribution to the discussion of human origins.

It’s good for bible study too — isn’t that great? We found it at Amazon: Human Origins and the Bible: A Bold New Theory Relating Genesis Human Origins to Science. It’s 194 pages and it costs only $14.99 in paperback — what a bargain! There are no reviews yet, and we’re not given any information about the author, other than a mention that he’s an engineer.

This book belongs in your library, dear reader. What are you waiting for? Go get it! Your Curmudgeon is pleased to have brought you this information.

Myron has another self-published book The Seventh Day: Can you Enter This Blessed and Sanctified Day? which looks equally scintillating. And he does tree pruning. Busy guy.

  2. If I read his work,I’m sure I’d be heavin too.

  3. Dear Curmudgeon: Much as I appreciate your advice to add Myron’s book to my library, my bookshelves are quite full, and I haven’t read all of them yet. Besides, I just spent $15 on a pizza, which I’m sure is more important for my survival than anything Myron has to say. Although I admit it does sound fascinating with all those early humans and Neanderthals and what not running around for a couple hundred thousand years and not having any idea about sin. I bet they were happy, although they probably hadn’t invented pizza yet.

  4. Amazing how something like this can make the word ‘engineer’ equate to ‘delusional dimwit’. Its amazing how a science trained engineer can ignore science and history and make believe the buyBull is true! As they say NEVER underestimate the power or depth of human stupidity!!!

  5. Adam and Eve living 8,000 years ago
I thought that they lived 6,000 years ago.

  6. Oh man! My father also observed the Saturday sabbath, believed Genesis was a literal account, and pruned fruit trees. Although he didn’t self-publish a book as Myron did, he spent hours writing up his theological musings and sent the articles off to a preacher in California. He bragged that the preacher used his ideas in his radio program. If my father had been an engineer, the convergence would have been perfect.

  7. “Due to their new knowledge of right from wrong, a few generations later we have cities, farming, metalworking, etc. It took a cultural change, religion, for all these things to happen.”

And most people think that the fall was a bad thing!
