Rev. David Rives — Infinite Filth

Buffoon Award

We haven’t mentioned it lately, but as most of you know, WorldNetDaily (WND) was an early winner of the Curmudgeon’s Buffoon Award, thus the jolly logo displayed above this post. The award was in recognition of WND’s outstanding status as a flamingly creationist, absolutely execrable, moronic, and incurably crazed journalistic organ. You will soon see why we felt it was appropriate to remind you of this.

The Drool-o-tron™ alerted us with its sirens and flashing lights, and the blinking letters of its wall display said WorldNetDaily (WND). The ever-vigilant device had once again found the latest video by the leader of David Rives Ministries. Our computer was locked onto this headline at WND: What happens when evolution is taken to its logical extreme? The actual title of the rev’s video is “Adolf Hitler.”

In a tad more than two minutes before the commercial at the end, the rev tells us that Hitler’s ideology was influenced by Darwin — survival of the fittest, etc. To drive his message home, the rev shows lots of concentration camp photos, and tells us that all the horrors of the Third Reich were based on Darwinism. Taken to its logical conclusion, Darwin’s ideology gave Aryans the right to exterminate inferior races. The strong must eliminate the weak. According to evolution, there was nothing wrong with Hitler’s actions.

This is pure, vomit-inducing creationism. We get the impression that there’s nothing behind the rev’s cute bible-boy face except maggots, wriggling wildly. He’s wearing the same outfit he wore for his last three videos, suggesting that he changes his clothes about once a month. Go ahead, click over to WND and watch it — but be warned: This one is solid excrement, all the way through.

As we always do with the rev’s videos, we dedicate the comments section for your use as an Intellectual Free Fire Zone. You know the rules. Okay, the comments are open. Go for it!

“When many people talk about ‘evolution,’ what they really mean is the observable process called ‘natural selection,;” as David Rives says in another of his videos. In arguing that natural selection (acting to produce microevolution within the human species, something else Rives claims to accept) justifies the Holocaust, Rives (it seems to me) creates something of a problem for his version of creationism. If natural selection is real thing, created by God for a purpose, doesn’t that provide a stronger basis for coercive eugenics programs?

Of course, Rives also demonstrates that he doesn’t understand natural selection, or variation within populations (Darwin noted in The Descent of Man that racial essentialism is false — under his theory there can be no trait, common to all members of one race and absent in other races).

  2. That the Not So Good Rev is too stupid and or/ dishonest to recognize the is/ought fallacy doesn’t mean we are.
Plus of course he totally neglects Pjotr Kropotkin’s work, based on the principle of Mutual Aid.

  3. To have one Tory Prime Minister completely foul up one referendum is a misfortune; to have a second Tory Prime Minister then foul up a general election smacks of carelessness.

And what a real [???] we have here in the UK! Having called an unnecessary election in the expectation of increasing her Parliamentary majority, PM May has instead pi$$ed it away! And now, in order to cling to office, can only do so with the assistance of NI’s truly wretched DUP!

And, for those not familiar with the DUP–yep, they’re hard-core reactionary Creationists.

I hope everyone remembers David McConaghie

  4. You will note how I am cleverly testing to see if the Great Hand of Correction again smiles upon us! And if so, I hope that great mysterious power can fix the “unnenessary” mispellings and typos in previous post. 🙂

  5. Davies demos his stoopid, again! He has no idea of the meaning of ‘survival of the fittest!’, like most dimwitted religious.

DUP – now that is an anti-enlightenment party!

“…there’s nothing behind the rev’s cute bible-boy face except maggots…”

So you’re over your man crush on the Rev then?

  8. Ken Phelps says: “So you’re over your man crush on the Rev then?”

    I was such a fool!

As you remind our readers, the purposes of the Intelligent Designers give moral directives to what happens in nature, supposedly.
Many of the anti-evolutionists insist on the reality of “micro-evolution” within “created kinds”. So when they point out the supposed evils of accepting evolution within “mankind”, how are they to distance themselves from the consequences of accepting micro-evolution within mankind? (What does the macro-evolution of whales or birds have to do with Hitler?)

Their real beef is with atheism. They believe evolution removes an important need for a god therefore clearing the path for naturalism.

  11. In “Masters of Death” , Richard Rhodes points out that it was really the US’ treatment of the first nations that Hitler admired and tried to emulate.

Funny how the ID (Incompetent Designer) gave us a body full of structural, mechanical, and biological problems, then kept it alive it with acquired microbes. Like his mind was on other things.

The argumentum ad Hitlerum is an infamous rhetorical scam not limited to creationists. that doesn’t let Rev. Rives off the hook, especially when it can be shown from the Führer’s own writings that he had at best a comic-book (Jack Chick?) notion of what natural selection actually is. Clearly the Rev is no better informed.

To take just one example, Darwin emphasized he role of cooperation as well as competition in evolution. (Pairs of species adapting to form a biological partnership beneficial to both aren’t rare.) “Nature red in tooth and claw” is not an accurate description of the natural order as Darwin saw it, or as modern biologists do, either.

Then there’s the matter of who qualifies as “the fittest.” It’s not necessarily the strongest: a man strong enough to lift a tank but sterile would be “unfit” in Darwinian terms. It’s all about who produces the most offspring who themselves produce offspring. Creationists (and, to be fair, even a lot of people who accept evolution) don’t understand this; for them, it’s about who can kill or enslave whom.

  14. “Nature red in tooth and claw” comes from Tennyson’s poem “In Memoriam A.H.H.” of 1848, a decade before “On the Origin of Species”.

“All Things Bright and Beautiful” also of 1848, (which according to Wikipedia, might have been inspired by Paley’s “Natural Theology”) tells us
The rich man in his castle,
The poor man at his gate,
God made them high and lowly,
    And ordered their estate.

  15. Understandably, even the Great and Powerful * Voice from Above * was unable to divine the missing word in my previous dyslexic posting, viz.:

And what a real [???] we have here in the UK!

For the record, the missing word was of course Covfefe
