Today we bring you another addition to our series about Self-Published Geniuses, where we bring you news of authors with a vanity press book in which the author claims to have made paradigm-shattering discoveries, and announces his work by hiring a press release service.
The press release for this one is titled Xulon Press Announces the Release of A Dialogue About Life, the Universe and Science in View of God’s Existence, issued by Cision PRWeb, which describes itself as “the leader in online news distribution and publicity.” It says, with some bold font added by us for emphasis, and occasional Curmudgeonly interjections [that look like this]:
Contrary to what atheists believe, science and God can co-exist. Within the pages of A Dialogue About Life, the Universe and Science in View of God’s Existence … readers will discover that science can be used to infer God’s existence.
Ooooooooooooh! At last, a useful purpose for science. Then the press release quotes the author:
“This book will appeal to the reader because it is scientifically informative about science [Hee hee!], which is used to infer God’s existence, leading to the realization that God must exist as the prime cause of man and the universe which are the effect of His creation,” Giulio Di Giacomo says.
Wowie — the book is “scientifically informative about science”! After that the press release tells us about the author:
A native of Cansano, Italy, Giulio Di Giacomo graduated from Brooklyn College with a bachelor’s of science degree in physics. He received a master’s degree of science at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, then he joined IBM in 1970. Giacomo has taught technology courses in conferences across the nation as well as in the IBM internal educational system.
That’s a credible background. But before we go further, we need to know if this book qualifies for our collection. We have the press release, but was it published by a vanity press? The press release makes it easy for us. They tell us:
Xulon Press, a division of Salem Media Group, is the world’s largest Christian self-publisher, with more than 12,000 titles published to date.
Okay, the book qualifies for our collection! Let’s see if we can find it at Amazon. Yes! Here it is: A Dialogue about Life, the Universe and Science in View of God’s Existence. Only $26.00 in paperback, and there are no reviews yet.
To learn more about the wonders inside, we peeked at his chapter on Mutation and Evolution. It says:
Isn’t mutation and evolution part of the design? Let us assume that indeed the human species evolved from apes and that somehow, at some point, he started to develop phenomenal intelligence that propelled him to his present stratospheric knowledge, leaving the rest of the primates gathering dust. Does that mean that what happened to man was a fortuitous sequence of event and not part of the Creator’s design? First, how come monkeys have remained monkeys despite the efforts to teach them simple tasks for centuries? Therefore, this can’t be the result of natural selection by which at some point some ape became smarter through mutations and progressively by experience, to break through the barrier of learning to achieve the marvels of science and technological achievements through the scientific revolution. This is insanity!
Wowie — why are there still monkeys? A powerful argument indeed! This book is definitely “scientifically informative about science.”
Okay, dear reader, your Curmudgeon has done his part. Now it’s up to you. Buy the book. You may learn something.
