Here’s Your Memorial Day Free Fire Zone

Monday is Memorial Day. Wikipedia says it’s “a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces.” This will be a long, three-day holiday, and you know what that means — news of The Controversy between evolution and creationism is scarce.

We can’t even find any goofy news — no letters to the editor, no self-published geniuses, nothing.

One again, we need to entertain ourselves. Therefore, your Curmudgeon declares another Intellectual Free Fire Zone. Talk about whatever you think is interesting — science, politics, philosophy, etc. Banter, babble, bicker, bluster, blubber, blather, blab, blurt, burble, boast — say what you will. But beware of the profanity filters.

We now throw open the comments to you, dear reader. Have at it!

  1. Well, reports are that Kent Hovind is now having public school sponsored trips to his conpound/park/construction project near Lenox, AL.

  2. And just one more in that series as the story is continuing to develop:

  3. There was also this. This venue wouldn’t allow the link (too long) to the article, so I am posting the following FaceBook link to where I have the article linked:

A Christian Not An Atheist Sparked Lawsuit On Clergy Tax-Free Housing Allowances – May 18, 2018

  4. Ken Phelps

James McMurtry on the subject of Memorial Day

  5. Apparently, more american people have died in gun violence since 1967, than all the combat deaths of all american soldiers and sailors in all of america’s wars. I wonder if the Disocveroids sponsor gun clubs . Surely the intelligent designer made guns too.

  6. There have been reports about an unusual orbit of an asteroid lin an orbit linked to Jupiter: 2015 BZ 509. See the Wikipedia article.
It might be a visitor from outside the Solar System.
ISTM that it is worth investigating. For example, might it be older than the Solar System?

  7. @och will
Snopes has an analysis of the comparison of the numbers of deaths in the USA.
There is some diffixulty in the numbers, but Snopes rates this as “Mostly true”.

  8. Charles Deetz ;)

A bit of mourning for Memorial Day via Pink Floyd with the Peanuts

  9. A model I made to honor those who perished in the attack on Pearl Harbor, including the Japanese as well as the Americans.

But I’ve already found it yesterday! Just rely on Donald the Clown, voted into the White House by our dear SC. Of course I’m talking the cancelling of his meeting with Kim, who unfortunately is not a clown at all. What’s fortunate is that there is a positive side effect.

    Kim and Moon cooperate.

Donald the Clown manages again and again to ruin his own stupidities and quite often the two negatives not only cancel each other out, but result in something positive.
Of course this should not be understood as a justification for all the evil Donald the Clown is responsible for.

  11. Those who can’t do with their regular dose of creacrap for three days I can recommend the latest burp of Corny Cornelius:

One highlight is ” the arch enemy of evolutionary theory, Lamarckian inheritance, in its variety of forms, is well established by the science.”

  12. Useless knowledge: the longest sailable straight line path on Earth has been calculated.

Beware not to hit southeast Africa and Tierra del Fuego.

  13. Good news from Ireland. Hopefully, the Church is on the skids there, as it is generally in the wider Western world.

  14. Karl Goldsmith (@KarlGoldsmith)

The misogeny of Ken Ham in his comments on Ireland, but seems to have held off writing on his blog.

  15. Word for the day (yes, it’s a real word):
    Trumpery (noun)
    1. deceit; fraud (Obs.)
    2. anything calculated to deceive by false show; anything externally splendid but of little intrinsic value.

    Trump lie counter:
