Creationist Wisdom #930: The Signs Are Obvious

Today’s letter-to-the-editor appears in the Countywide & Sun of Tecumseh, Oklahoma (population 6,457). The letter doesn’t have a title, but you can find it here: Letters To The Editor, and the newspaper has a comments feature.

Because the writer isn’t a politician, preacher, or other public figure, we won’t embarrass or promote her by using her full name. Her first name (or two) is Ona Faye. Excerpts from her letter will be enhanced with our Curmudgeonly commentary, some bold font for emphasis, and occasional Curmudgeonly interjections that look [like this]. Here we go!

We in our country continued to try to replace God with ourselves. Years ago we allowed evolution [Gasp!] to be taught in schools as a fact, which it is not. God made the world and everything in it, [scripture reference].

Ona Faye ends almost every sentence with a scripture reference. For readability we won’t mention them — but you should know that Ona Faye has solid references for everything. Okay, then she says:

In 1963 we allowed prayer to be banned from our schools because some people did not like it. [Gasp!] From that time schools only got worse. [Of course!] Then we decided women had a right to have their unborn babies murdered. [Oh no!] So we thought we could take God’s place in who could live and who must die. God has not forgotten this atrocity and He will judge us.

This sad account of our sins isn’t over yet. It gets worse! She tells us:

And if that wasn’t enough, we decided that we could control the weather by using global warming or climate change as a means to this end.

Outrageous! Ona Faye continues:

The scientists and doctors have found cures for many diseases and have developed a lot of things that made life easier. Instead of giving glory to God we pat ourselves on the back and say how smart we all are. [We’re fools!]

Can you handle any more, dear reader? All right, let’s read on:

Christmas has become just an exercise in selling and buying. Stores start Christmas rush before Halloween. For the most part secular songs are played that have nothing to do with Christ’s birth.

Tragic indeed. Can it get any worse? Sadly, the answer is yes. Here it comes:

We are so confused we don’t even know what sex we are, male or female, or something in between.

Egad! Ona Faye knows all about you, dear reader. The only good news is that we’ve arrived at the end of her letter:

Please get right with God, please accept Christ as your Savior, for the signs are getting more and more obvious of Christ’s return.

Listen to Ona Faye, dear reader. She knows what she’s talking about.

  1. God made the world and everything in it, [scripture reference].
In this case, the scripture reference is “interesting”. Psalm 24:1-2, which says (in KJV translation):
The Earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

That doesn’t sound much like “God made the world and everything in it”. It does seem to say that the world is floating on water, but let us not dwell upon that distraction – it is, after all, poetry.

  2. Michael Fugate

Her reference for school prayer is odd, Proverbs 9:10-12, but if she had just kept going maybe she wouldn’t have written the letter…
    Proverbs 9:13
A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

  3. Michael Fugate

Another obvious sign, just use your common sense, intuition…

  4. Ona says “…the signs are getting more and more obvious of Christ’s return.” Get back to us when he actually shows up, Ona.

  5. Poor ‘ole Ona Faye. Yearning for the good old days. Surprisingly, she does not rate the election of a pathological liar as President among the litany of signs of decay in America.

  6. “for the signs are getting more and more obvious of Christ’s return”
Shouldn’t Ona Faye rejoice then that all those things happen? Even stimulate them? If you want evidence that I’m an incurable unbeliever it’s that I’ll never get the attitude she displays.

  7. From MichaelF’s link: ““Ships navigate based on the principle that the Earth is round,” said Henk Keijer.”
That name sounds suspiciously Dutch and we all know that Dutchies can’t be trusted. Just look at me.

  8. Ona Faye’s right. The only one killing unborn babies should be God, not upstart women. Otherwise, it gets very confusing as to who’s supposed to be God, and who isn’t.

No wonder He goes all Mad Professor on our sinful a***s and comes up with all sorts of clever afflictions to smite wretched Third-worlders with (and hopefully a few First-worlders, too, who have the temerity to get involved, like aid workers).

God’s got other plans for all those scientists and doctors who keep finding cures but not giving credit where it’s due. I can’t find a scripture reference for it but I can feel it in my bones.

As for who controls the weather: ask Mr Putin. Don’t expect an answer, though.

  9. @ChrisS: Well, if you think, as Ona apparently does, that her god controls everything, he/she/it is the greatest abortionist of all time, since something like 20 to 40% of all pregnancies end in spontaneous abortion.
