Creationist Wisdom #940: Dealing with the Devil

Today’s letter-to-the-editor appears in the Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. It’s titled Put trust in God, not mankind, and the newspaper has a comments feature.

Because the writer isn’t a politician, preacher, or other public figure, we won’t embarrass or promote him by using his full name. His first name is Barry. Excerpts from his letter will be enhanced with our Curmudgeonly commentary, some bold font for emphasis, and occasional Curmudgeonly interjections that look [like this]. Here we go!

Supporters of Roe v. Wade said first-trimester abortions remove only a blob of tissue. That’s all they wanted. Homosexuals wanted to live openly apart from persecution, that’s all. We all know now you can’t make deals with the devil.

For those who never heard of it, here’s the Wikipedia article on Roe v. Wade. Barry is right. You can’t make a deal with that ol’ devil. He says:

So where is America? Murdering babies as they’re being born and people cheering. DNA and science no longer determine sex of a person.

Yup, everything’s all messed up. But wait — it’s even worse. Barry tells us:

A wall is immoral, yet butchering children is all right. The solution to being bullied is suicide to a generation of hopeless children. Opiates killing more people than some wars have. Political leaders being ruled by hatred without concern for the people. Lawlessness without consequence by the ruling class – all the norm.

This is horrible! How did we get into such a mess? Barry explains:

How did we get to such a degenerative state? We banned the Bible and God’s commandments from our schools [No!], replacing a sovereign God with evolution’s lies. [Gasp!]

Evolution in the schools! No wonder we’re all messed up. He continues:

We quit studying our Bibles, placing our trust in the words of men who prove to be depraved sinners, as is all mankind. We make our own rules and God is who we make him to be.

What can be done? Here’s Barry’s advice:

But there is a God we all will face. Your rules and opinion of him will not matter, nor will your religion. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my father in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21) Trust his Bible, not men. Men lie. His word is truth.

So there you are, dear reader. Listen to Barry. He knows what he’s talking about.

Because everything was perfect in the good old US of A in 1960 – and even better in 1860. MAGA indeed.

  2. Turning on my psycho powers..this dimwit has NEVER lived according to the morals of the buyBull!! And has never really read it in a studied manner. If he did the 1st he would be in jail, and the 2nd would make him an atheist!

  3. Barry Billing’s great-great-grandpappy writing in 1860:

“O, where is my America? Beset on all sides by devilry and division, by my reckoning. Uppity Negroes clamoring for their emancipation. Infernal groups of women nattering on about some newfangled thing called ‘suffrage.’ Heaven help me! even my beloved Emmy-Lou Claribel Jane voices discontent over her God-ordained lot in life. Tommyrot, I say! The Devil will find work for idle hands.

I have heard tell from learned minds in Europe of Mr. Darwin’s strange theory. Truth be told, it is a lie straight from the pit of Hell! I will warrant the Bible is more than a match for Mr. Darwin and his Satanic Works. Have we not once before cast out our British overlords? To the Devil with Mr. Darwin! America must — nay, shall — prevail, for we are the true people of the Lord.”

  4. As TomS rightfully points out, the Bible, specifically Ecclesiastes 7:10, is wiser than anybody who reads it literally.

  5. Hey !! How come Barry didn’t mention guns??? Over 100 Americans per day die from gunshot wounds.

  6. Hey SC, I think he called your preferred candidate for President in 2016 as being evil and abandoning the Bible. Guess even idiots can be right some of the time.

  7. Took me 5 tries to post that simple comment. Most technology gets better with time. Why is WordPress getting worse?

  8. @Techreseller
    Make technology great again.
I picture the time when we have driverless cars. We tell the car to take us to Such-And-Such a place, and the car takes us Elsewhere, and we have no choice. Elsewhere has a contract with the software that steers the car.

  9. I think Barry got one thing right: “… and God is who we make him to be.” As far as I know, that’s true of all the 10,000+ gods people have invented.
