View the Bankruptcy Court Bids for “Expelled”

We learned about this bidding information link from the comments section of this Panda’s Thumb thread: Help TalkOrigins Bid for “Expelled”.

You can see the bids online here: Premise Media Distribution, LP. When you get there, click on VIEW or BID ITEMS BEING SOLD.

At that point, scroll down to about the fifth item. The description starts out with:

That certain feature-length motion picture (“Picture”) entitled “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” …

There you’ll see a clickable number, which is the number of bids received. If you click on that you can see what’s come in so far.

At the moment there have been 15 bids, and the price is up to $1,600. That’s a lot for this schlocky movie, but the bidding has just begun.

If you want to contribute to TalkOrigins to help them bid for it, details are in the Panda’s Thumb article. Or make your own bid. If you lose, you can tell your grandchildren that you were part of the action, and if you win … well, then you’re on your own.

Don’t say that or idiots will start making joke bids and put it out of Panda’s Thumb’s price range. The less people who bid the better.

  2. There’s a good chance that Howard Ahmanson will have the winning bid, maybe via a 3rd party to disguise his name. There’s already been talk, that if a pro-science person buys it, it will be re-released with “the rest of the story.” Inlcuding some comments from Ken Miller, who was “expelled” from the original because, in the producer’s words, he would have “confused” their propaganda.

Whateve happens, I hope people keep nagging Ben Stein to answer the corrections of his misconceptions in Set Ben Straight.

  3. i would like to own the rights to this; just having an atheist own it gives some ironic justice. I do like the idea of a release with “the rest of the story”

  4. Always read the fine print…especially in this case the bottom line:

The Picture may be subject to certain distribution and manufacturing rights held by Vivendi Entertainment. Vivendi Entertainment maintains an inventory of manufactured compact discs and has continued to distribute the Picture for the benefit of the bankruptcy estate of Premise Media Distribution, L.P.

  5. As of Saturday morning, 25 June, the bidding is up to $2,000.

  6. Monday morning, 27 June. Bidding is now up to $2,100. The website says that the auction ends tomorrow — Tuesday, June 28th, 2011 @ 10:00 AM (CDT).

  7. Wierd, bidder #8466 out-bid themselves, multiple times.

Hmm. Sounds like there may be someone with an interest in jacking up the price?

  9. The latest (9:00 AM Eastern time) is that there are 2 hours left, the reserve has been met, and the price is up to $43,000.

  10. Whoa! The auction has ended. The price is $201,000. That’s a lot of money for such a film. I imagine we’ll soon learn the name of the lucky winner.

Probably Ben Stein himself. Buying all evidence of the film that destroyed his career (such as it was) and reputation (ditto) and discretely burying it is probably easier than answering inconvenient questions. In the same spirit, Mel Gibson is now the proud owner of his infamous police video, which the world will never see. I guess my modest but sincere bid of $1.89 got left out in the cold fairly early on.

  12. TalkOrigins Foundation will return the money donated for this project, since they did not win the auction.

Contrast that with what Ken Ham would do.

I think there is a very clear difference.

    Spendthrift!!
