Come on, Klinghoffer, You Can Do It!

When the horrendous news broke this past weekend about the shootings in Colorado, we promptly posted Colorado Shooter James Holmes & Darwin.

We recited the long history of malignant invectives promoted by the neo-theocrats at the Discovery Institute‘s creationist public relations and lobbying operation, the Center for Science and Culture (a/k/a the Discoveroids, a/k/a the cdesign proponentsists).

Whenever anything goes wrong in the world, the Discoveroids routinely blame it on Darwin — and the attack jobs are usually perpetrated by David Klinghoffer, the Discoveroids’ journalistic slasher, upon whom they have bestowed the exalted title of “senior fellow” — i.e., flaming, full-blown creationist. His name has some of the resonance of Red Skelton’s Clem Kadiddlehopper.

The Discoveroids even blame Darwin even for things he never advocated and that were going on long before was born (see Racism, Eugenics, and Darwin). Given their track record, we knew they were itching to get into print blaming the theater shootings on Darwin — just as they had done a few years ago regarding the Columbine shootings.

So after waiting all weekend for the expected super-volcano of vomit from Seattle, what do we find? Only this from Klinghoffer: Jerry Coyne Is Forced to Back Down in Smear Against Pastor Rick Warren. It’s weak, it’s lame, and it’s not going to survive in this world of natural selection. But it does give Klinghoffer the opportunity to put on his scriptural savant costume and — in the guise of a man of virtue — say this:

We haven’t said anything about the horrendous tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, because other than expressing the same shock, anguish and compassion for the victims that everyone else feels, there is nothing to say. Really, next to nothing is known about the killer’s motivations or state of mind.

So there you are, dear reader. They’re waiting. Waiting for a news report about just one little Tweet, one diary entry, one email — anything at all that will give them a pretext to claim a connection between the shooter and Darwin’s theory. Then the Deluge!

Warren claimed his tweet was in response to an email from
a father concerning what the father’s daughter told him.

That is a bit unbelievable to me. Reason…
why would Warren expect the father to read a twitter response
to an email? Nope..Coyne was right all along. Warren is lying.

It is also possible that Warren never read the email or actually was
the one doing the twitting. Not unusual for celebritities such as he
to hire someone to handle such.

  2. Kapoople Flinger is sharpening his pencil. (he’ll have to omit the regular attendee at the church thing though, or spin it).
Hey wait! Isn’t a Presbyterian Church pro evolution statement available on the NCSE web site? Yes ! Aha !
Kapoople Flinger, you’re in business !

  3. Kling must be counting on people not to click on his links.

Those who do click on the links will see that Coyne was reasonable in both posts, and did not appear to “try to make hay of the event”. Rather, they will see that Warren most likely was the one to do so – given that his excuse was so muddled. (Can anyone believe the email he claims to have received, and that he would not just reply by email?)

The MSNBC story does not help Kling’s case at all, either.

It is clear that Kling is the one who is itching to use this case to rant, and is using any little opportunity, even one this trivial, to do so. I agree – we will see a long rant in the near future, unless by predicting one, we shame him into remaining silent. (this assumes he has the capability for shame, which is yet to be detected)

Perhaps Kipperedherringhoffer has simply chosen the high road in this instance. If that’s the case, I just lost a five dollar bet.

  5. NeonNoodle says: “If that’s the case, I just lost a five dollar bet.”

Your money is safe. Be patient.

  6. It’s all part of the great intelligent designer’s plan, nothing more.

  7. Grad student in neuroscience, a fan of Batman, knows how to order from the Internet = Darwinist = atheist. Klingonippleoffer will draw those connections any minute now.

  8. Louis Gohmert (R-TX) knows who the real victims are here: conservative Christians. Or “Judao-Christians”, who are under “attack.”

Taxpayer dollars MUST be used to fund Gohmert’s religion. If not, you’ll be killed.

During a radio interview on The Heritage Foundation’s “Istook Live!” show, Gohmert was asked why he believes such senseless acts of violence take place. Gohmert responded by talking about the weakening of Christian values in the country.

“You know what really gets me, as a Christian, is to see the ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs, and then some senseless crazy act of terror like this takes place,” Gohmert said.

“Some of us happen to believe that when our founders talked about guarding our virtue and freedom, that that was important,” he said. “Whether it’s John Adams saying our Constitution was made only for moral and religious people … Ben Franklin, only a virtuous people are capable of freedom, as nations become corrupt and vicious they have more need of masters … We have been at war with the very pillars, the very foundation of this country.”

Ernest Istook, the host of the show and a former Oklahoma congressman, jumped in to clarify that nobody knows the motivation of the alleged Aurora gunman. Gohmert said that may be true, but suggested the shootings were still “a terrorist act” that could have been avoided if the country placed a higher value on God.

“People say … where was God in all of this?” Gohmert said. “We’ve threatened high school graduation participations, if they use God’s name, they’re going to be jailed … I mean that kind of stuff. Where was God? What have we done with God? We don’t want him around. I kind of like his protective hand being present.”

  9. And another story in the “Where was God?” category:

Pregnant Amish woman killed by lightning two days before her due date: http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2012/07/24/us/ap-us-pregnant-woman-lightning.html?hp&gwh=C340694BE163087256ADD58EB9F652E5

  10. Yes, theocratic nations have such a good history of tolerance and non-violence. Anyone remember Salem in this country?

  11. The reason Klinghoffer didn’t blame Darwin on this incident is because he read your prediction that he would do just as he was preparing to do it. So, instead, he wrote that “next to nothing is known about the killer’s motivations or state of mind” just to give the impression of being fair and clearheaded.

  12. entropy says: “The reason Klinghoffer didn’t blame Darwin on this incident is because he read your prediction that he would do just as he was preparing to do it.”

I suspect that’s true, and I actually considered not posting my prediction so that I could complain about the Discoveroids’ behavior yet again. But then I decided that if, just maybe, I could head them off, it would be a good thing, so I posted. But it isn’t over yet. They’re still waiting for something to justify the accusation.
